Trunk or Treat with Raise Coffee
Saturday, October 25th
The annual seasonal tradition continues!
Join our Raise Coffee volunteers for the "Trunk or Treat" event in the parking lot at Cool Spring Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Road, in Mechanicsville. The event will be held from 3 to 5 PM. Look for the Raise Trailer! Beverages, music, the cake walk and friends await.
There is no cost or ticket if you are a self-advocate attending the event. We would love to have folks bring their "Trunk" (car) and some "Treats" (please keep allergies in mind) for those coming to the event. Costuming is welcome! Please RSVP by October 18th if you can host a "Trunk" or if you would like to volunteer to serve in the Raise Trailer.

If you are not currently a volunteer with The Arc of Hanover, you will need to complete a volunteer form. Visit our "Volunteer" tab. "Trunk" hosts do not need to complete a volunteer form.

Brunch With Santa
Saturday, December 6th
We've taken one of our favorite events of the year and made it a Brunch!
Self-advocates, family members and caregivers are invited to The Arc of Hanover's "Brunch With Santa," at Hanover Tavern, (13181 Hanover Courthouse Road in Hanover). Enjoy a delicious brunch, activities and photo ops with the Jolly one starting at 11 AM on Saturday, December 6th.
Final details for this event are still being determined, including the fee for brunch. We will announce registration here and on our social media. Please follow us!

EVENT
"Off the Rails" Craft Beer and Wine Festival with the Mobile Sensory Tent
Saturday, October 25th
3 to 7 PM
The Hanover Arts & Activities Center in Ashland
We have a Tent Captain for this event (thank you, Elizabeth Edens!) but we need more friends to support throughout the afternoon and evening.
Do you have one hour to help? You do not need special experience to serve in the Sensory Tent. You need a willingness to invite people into the tent for accommodating items or to share our information about sensory challenges. We'll have Event fliers from The Arc of Hanover, so you can share those with visitors, too.
We want you to be able to enjoy time at the festival as well. If you can donate one hour of time, that would be so helpful.
Please click below to RSVP by October 20th to Sue Jeantheau.
If you are not currently a volunteer with The Arc of Hanover, you will need to complete a volunteer form. Visit our "Volunteer" tab.

Please RSVP by Thursday, December 4th.
This event is open to teens and adults (ages 14+). Fee: $10. Click below to RSVP.

The Aktion Club Returns to Hanover County
We are very excited to announce the re-start of the Aktion Club. Changes and transitions had the club on hold for a time, but it's back starting next month, thanks to our partnership with the Ashland Kiwanis Club and Hanover County Parks & Recreation.
Kiwanis International serves the needs of children by helping its members build leadership and service skills through its local clubs. The Ashland Kiwanis has been in existence since 1923. Members of the Aktion Club actually become official members of the Ashland Kiwanis.
Aktion Club has 'action' in its name. Club members will be engaged in the planning and execution of service projects in and around Hanover County. There will also be formal meeting procedures to learn and teaching about core values presented, including character-building, leadership, inclusiveness and caring.
An open house and registration night, with light refreshments, will be held at The Arc of Hanover building on Monday, November 10th, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Come learn what the Aktion Club is all about! Those who wish to register can sign up on-site. The membership fee for individuals who register will be covered by a generous community donor.
The Aktion Club is open to any disability self-advocate age 18 or older. Meetings will be held on the second Monday of the month at The Arc of Hanover -- unless the service project requires fulfillment off-site. Please bookmark this page for details about meetings. In December, we will be making holiday cards to give away!
"The Journeyers" meets at The Arc of Hanover
Since May 2022, "The Journeyers" has provided a supportive outlet for parents and caregivers of loved ones with disabilities. Born out of the pandemic, the support group has provided a place for an exchange of information, ideas, recommendations and just plain talk.
Originator and facilitator of The Journeyers, Sue Jeantheau (now on the Board of The Arc of Hanover), has brought the group to The Arc with the intent of solidifying and expanding it to reach more of Hanover County.
"The Journeyers is open to anyone who has a child or adult of any age with a disability," says Sue. "This is not a clinical support group but a group for those who not only need the support but can often provide the best support to others."
The group meets monthly (except for December), generally during the last week of the month on a weeknight. Gatherings run from 7 to 8:30 PM at The Arc of Hanover building. For more information, contact Sue Jeantheau.

Hanover Community Calendar
We are invested in and regularly connect with our community disability partners. We have created this calendar -- through the Hanover Community Collaborative -- to help with your planning given the other events hosted and sponsored by our partners. This collaborative calendar will change often as we invite more partners to join in with us.
Please consult the organization sponsoring an event with specific questions.
